Singlife with Aviva goes all-in on AWS to drive product and service innovation

5 min read

SINGAPORE, December 1, 2022 Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company, today announced that homegrown financial services company Singlife with Aviva (Singlife) will be going all- in on AWS by the end of 2023. Singlife will migrate its entire information technology (IT) infrastructure to AWS to enhance Singlife’s digital capabilities, enabling the company to better meet growing consumer demands for hyper-personalised digital financial services, while also supporting Singlife’s environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) objectives

Prior to its merger with Aviva Singapore in 2022, Singlife built a digital-first service model on AWS to support its consumers in Singapore and the Philippines. Now, as a merged entity with Aviva Singapore, Singlife is closing its on-premises data centres and migrating its Aviva IT workloads to AWS. The depth and breadth of AWS’s cloud services will provide Singlife with unified data capabilities that improve speed-to-market of new products and enhance the company’s digital workflows, ultimately powering all of Singlife’s new user interfaces to elevate the consumer experience for more than 1.5 million customers.

Singlife needed to build a consumer-first platform for seamless digital transactions and financial engagement. To unite the company’s data, which was stored in disparate environments that made building new consumer services challenging, Singlife built a data repository with AWS Partner Snowflake, the Data Cloud company, using Snowflake’s single, integrated platform. This platform helps Singlife securely load, integrate, analyse, and share data on AWS to make data-driven better business decisions.

Singlife manages data from the repository using Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), a service that helps AWS customers set up, operate, and scale a relational database in the cloud. Using AWS, Singlife can securely share datasets with partners and regulators to improve the consumer experience with new financially-compliant services. Using Amazon SageMaker, AWS’s service that enables data scientists and developers to build, train, and deploy machine learning models quickly, Singlife can more easily build models to automatically deliver personalised insurance policy recommendations for consumers in real-time. Using Amazon Connect, an easy-to-use omnichannel cloud contact centre service, Singlife developed a robust omnichannel contact centre for the MySinglife portal with agile query handling and policy purchasing to enhance Singlife’s consumer service model.

Amazon is committed to reaching net-zero carbon across its business by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement, as part of The Climate Pledge. Innovation is key to achieving sustainability goals and AWS offers the broadest and deepest set of capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics, and computing to help customers meet their sustainability goals. Singlife will leverage AWS to develop best practices to meet its ESG goals by building a sustainable business through responsible investments, innovative sustainable products, and carbon neutral operations.

To complement the integration of cloud services, Singlife will benefit from AWS’s training programmes to upskill its workforce with in-demand cloud skills in the areas of development, technical operations, and management. AWS has developed a tailored training programme for Singlife, which includes Cloud Essentials for Business Leaders, Cloud Practitioner Essentials, Technical Essentials, Well-Architected Best Practices, and hands-on AWS JAM sessions in which employees experience game-based learning. Additionally, Singlife’s leadership team will participate in AWS’s Cloud in the Clouds executive training programme, which provides leaders with a comprehensive overview of cloud services and insights on how to nurture a cloud-driven work culture using the AWS Cloud Essentials for Business Leaders training module.

Romil Sharma, group head, technology and operations at Singlife with Aviva, said: “Digitisation is no longer a good-to-have but a must-have. Our cloud-first strategy with AWS allows us to stay true to our digital-first heritage, enabling us to harness the full potential of technology to benefit our consumers. With our upgraded data analytic capabilities, we are now uniquely positioned to provide consumers with hyper-personalised experiences, helping them achieve financial freedom confidently on their own terms.”

“The financial sector is increasingly digitising to meet growing consumer demand for convenience, accessibility, and innovative offerings,” said Vikram Rao, head of enterprise, ASEAN at AWS. “By going all-in on AWS, Singlife with Aviva is taking a cloud-first approach while upskilling employees in the latest cloud capabilities. Using AWS, Singlife with Aviva can quickly develop new and innovative data-driven services, and enhance consumer experiences, supporting their customer promise of A Better Way to Financial Freedom’.”
