Manila – Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc.’s (MUFG) banking arm, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd (BTMU) announced the appointment of Ms. Melina (“Mimi”) Concha as Executive Vice-President and Head of Global Corporate Banking for its Manila Branch. Ms. Concha joined the bank on 21 June 2016 and is based in Manila.

This is a newly-created role for the Manila Branch which is a result of a strategic decision to appoint an experienced local corporate banker. Ms. Concha will report to Mr. Tadahiro Miyamoto, General Manager of Manila Branch and also to Mr. Yoshitake Manabe, General Manager of the Global Corporate Banking for Asia and Oceania region.

Mr. Miyamoto welcomed the appointment and said: “With Ms. Concha onboard our leadership team, we can expect her to work collaboratively with the team across Asia and Oceania for business development and grow our market share here in the Philippines. “MUFG has been operating in the Philippines for more than 60 years, and has served as the main banker for many Japanese corporates operating here.

“Over the recent years, we have started to deepen our presence and network with many local and regional corporates. We expect to grow our global corporate banking business here in the Philippines and in the region. Given her depth of experience, Ms. Concha is ideally placed to lead our global corporate banking team in the Philippines and drive the business to the next stage of our development,” continued Mr. Miyamoto.

Asia remains vital to the MUFG’s business, primarily because of the increasing cross-border trade and investment by many corporates in this region.

The bank has been transforming its business model for the Asia & Oceania region over the past couple of years and has strengthened the team as well as its capabilities to support the growing international corporate and financial institutions client segment who want to expand their business in Asia.

Within the Asia & Oceania region, the bank has recently appointed Mr. Drew Riethmuller as Deputy General Manager and Head of its Global Corporate Banking for Oceania in February 2016. Mr. Riethmuller is based in Sydney, Australia. Last April in 2015, the bank also promoted Mr. Pancaran Affendi as Deputy General Manager and Executive Vice-President of Global Corporate Banking for Indonesia. Mr. Affendi is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Prior to joining MUFG, Ms. Melina Concha was the Country Head of HSBC Philippines Branch’s Commercial Banking from August 2012 to April 2016. As Country Head for Commercial Banking, Ms. Concha was responsible for formulating and implementing business strategies to ensure the achievement of the financial and strategic objectives set by their Global Head and country CEO.

She also has experience in origination and working with key product groups and sector specialists to arrange bonds, equities, project finance, and M&A advisory. She held other leadership roles over her 20 years tenure with HSBC, including being SVP for Large Corporates and concurrently for Financial Institutions and Public Sector Group.

Ms. Concha graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Engineering, from the Ateneo de Manila University, one of the Philippines’ top universities.
