BRI Agro migrates to Google Cloud to advance digital banking strategy

5 min read

Jakarta, Indonesia, 4 Nov 2021 PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Agroniaga Tbk (BRI Agro-which will be Bank Raya upon approval from the Financial Services Authority/OJK) has chosen Google Cloud as its primary cloud provider as it accelerates its fully-licensed digital banking platform and strategy to serve people in Indonesia’s growing gig economy.

Specifically, BRI Agro will work with Google Cloud across several strategic areas as it expands to deliver on the Indonesian Government’s goal of financial inclusion for all:

  • Migrating its core banking and internal banking applications to the public cloud for resilience and reliability. By leveraging Google Cloud’s Jakarta region which was launched more than a year ago, BRI Agro can take advantage of lower latency, improved scale, and advanced security whilst meeting local compliance requirements and optimizing infrastructure spend.
  • Driving consumer personalization by building its data cloud strategy on Google Cloud. As consumers increasingly move towards online platforms, they will come to expect the same level of service from their banks that they already experience from other internet sectors such as e-commerce. BRI Agro is migrating its big data and data management platforms to Google Cloud, enabling the digital bank the ability to manage the end-to-end customer lifecycle online from day one and deliver personalized customer experiences to Indonesia’s unbanked.
  • Embracing a microservices architecture and Open Banking APIs for business agility.  In a competitive fintech landscape, BRI Agro is able to innovate at speed and roll out new offerings quickly thanks to Kubernetes and Apigee Open Banking APIs, thereby enabling BRI Agro to connect and build entirely new consumer-facing services.
  • Growing without compromising security and compliance. Moving at breathtaking speed does not come at the expense of security for BRI Agro. Google Cloud provides BRI Agro with embedded security to safeguard banking data and assists the digital bank with regulatory compliance, fraud prevention, and overall security.

“Collaboration between Google and BRI has already been built as part of digital transformation BRIvolution. BRI Agro as BRI’s subsidiaries, continued it’s journey to become a digital bank and followed the successful collaboration by using Google Cloud Platform to strengthen the digital infrastructure to serve Gig Economy. Hopefully, we can serve a more broadened area of the Gig Economy throughout Indonesia” said Kaspar Situmorang, CEO, BRI Agro.

“Google Cloud has been an instrumental partner in our BRIvolution digital transformation, and BRI Agro is taking the same successful path on its journey to become a leading digital bank. We look forward to our continued collaboration with Google Cloud, and to scaling BRI Agro to serve the needs of the millions of people in the Gig Economy throughout Indonesia,” said Kaspar Situmorang, CEO, BRI Agro.

“Innovation in financial services and the ability to adapt in a post pandemic world is set by technology disruption. We’re proud to provide the robust and secure Cloud platform that enables people across Indonesia’s Gig Economy to access finance faster with BRI Agro, and to support BRI in its mission to improve financial inclusion and resilience,” said Megawaty Khie, Country Director, Google Cloud in Indonesia.
