BIMB Holdings Bhd has appointed Khairul Kamarudin as chief executive officer of its unit Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd for a three-year period effective June 14.

In a statement to the stock exchange, the Lembaga Tabung Haji subsidiary said Khairul was currently Bank Islam deputy CEO as well as chairman of two Bank Islam subsidiaries, BIMB Investment Management Bhd and Farihan Corp Sdn Bhd.

Khairul joined Bank Islam in December 2005 and was its director of business development before he became deputy CEO in 2015.

Datuk Seri Zukri Samat, 59, retired as BIMB Holdings group CEO and Bank Islam managing director on Friday last week.

Zukri’s planned retirement had been known in the industry since last year and various people, including external candidates, were speculated as his successor.

BIMB Holdings has not announced who will take over as BIMB Holdings group CEO.
