Alipay appoints CCPay as its partner in Singapore for cashless transactions

5 min read

Alipay, the largest cashless payment platform in China and a subsidiary of Alibaba’s related company, Ant Financial, today signed an agreement with CCPay to offer cashless payment services to retailers in Singapore. CCPay, which is owned by CC Financial Services Pte Ltd, is Singapore’s leading digital payment solutions provider for online, mobile and in-store payment. This partnership agreement will be a further boost to Singapore’s move towards a cashless society.

In order to help the merchants around Chinatown to go digital, CCPay will introduce cashless payments to the retailers at People’s Park Complex, People’s Park Centre and Chinatown.

Mr Jed Huang, Founder & Director of CC Financial Services Pte Ltd, said: “We are pleased to be appointed by Alipay as its partner in Singapore to offer cashless payments. For the merchants in the People’s Park Complex, People’s Park Centre and Chinatown, the use of Alipay cashless payment platform will help to revitalise these old shopping centres and at the same time, attract more locals and tourists to shop here”.

According to the Singapore Tourism Board, there were 1.3 million tourists from China visiting Singapore from January to May 2017. Chinese nationals are used to cashless payment and they are familiar with Alipay.

Mr Melvin Ooi, Alipay’s Country Manager for Singapore, Sri Lanka and Maldives, said: “With Alipay, Chinese visitors will find it very convenient to do their shopping, dine and other activities in Singapore. Many Chinese tourists also like to hang out at the Chinatown area. With Alipay’s scale and expertise in the field of cashless payments, this collaboration with CCPay will provide a platform for merchants to facilitate safe, fast and cashless payments for the Chinese tourists in Singapore”.

With CCPay, consumers simply need to swipe their phone over the QR code provided by the retailer to pay, eliminating the need for cash or even credit cards. The ease of use also means that retailers can set up shop anywhere or in exhibition booths as long as they are able to display a QR code.

CCPay will launch Alipay through a fair at People’s Park Complex from 25 August to 27 August 2017. There will be demonstrations on the use of CCPay for a slew of cashless services. Shoppers will be able to visit the participating merchants to obtain discounts and try their luck in the many lucky draws. There will also be live Chinese opera performances and sampling of food at the booths.

Mr Jed Huang added: “There are plans for CCPay to offer cashless payment services to other shopping malls in Singapore after this launch at People’s Park Complex. Hopefully, we will see more and more traditional merchants go digital which is in line with Singapore’s vision of a Smart Nation.”
