Bangkok, May 30th 2019–Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) was awarded Best HR Technology Initiative, Application or Programme at The Financial Technology Innovation Awards Programme 2019. The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with The Future of Finance Summit,the foremost annual meeting for decision makers in the financial services industry in the Asia Pacific region, held at the Shangri-La, Bangkokon May 30th2019.

UnionBank implemented a centralised digital platform for human resource management and an employee lifestyle mobile app

The bank implemented ‘One UnionBanker Hub’, an integrated human resources (HR) management digital platform and mobile app integrating comprehensive functions including payroll, benefits administration, HR management information, recruitment, employee learning, training, organisation resource planning and absentee management function. Using this system business managers are able to review their goals, align them with organisation-wide metrics and also assign supplementary performance goals for the business unit.The system’s features address several pain points enabling easy access to digitised documents like payslips tax forms, certificates of employments and ‘my travel’ travel assistance features through the app.

The cloud based system automated processes and improved employee engagement with self service features

The cloud-based system provided employee lifestyle application that enabled digitisation of documents andsupport HR initiatives with self service capability. The bank improved employee experience and seamless engagement with 24x7access. Over 60% HR processes are fully automated and rest partially automated by launch of this system. The system was secured with biometric authentication (Face ID or Fingerprint) and a pin code that served as the digital signature.

Implemented through agile software development, the system facilitated significant efficiency and the integrated functions resulted in notable cost savings. Covering all the 3400 employees of the bank, it witnessed a strong uptake, recorded monthly login of more than 11,000. The turnaround time of in-scope HR processed decreased by an average of 99% for over 60% processes.
