Beirut was hit by massive explosions on 4 August 2020 that wreaked widespread damage to the city and significant loss of lives. Our thoughts are with the people of Lebanon during this difficult time.

We are deeply saddened by the series of explosions that struck the port of Beirut on 4 August 2020. It has devastated the city and left an immense toll on the people of Lebanon.

Over 150 lives were lost, hundreds injured, many more remained missing, and thousands were left homeless. The full extent of the damage will only be known when the recovery process ensues in the days ahead.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to all friends, their families and the people of Lebanon. We mourn your loss and wish we could do more to help ease your pain. Images of the blasts shocked the world and our hearts sank as we witnessed the destruction that unfolded. We stand with you as you seek to come to terms with and recover from this unimaginable tragedy.

Although it is one of the smallest nations in the Middle East, the influence of Lebanon’s rich culture, history and cosmopolitan society extends far and wide in the region and across the world. You have been an important regional economic and financial hub that draws visitors from everywhere. In recent years you have been beset by severe economic downturn, only exacerbated by the onset COVID-19 earlier this year.

Through it all, the people of Lebanon have been resilient and determined, displaying the strength of character with which you weathered the many crises and conflicts in your history. You will prove again your mettle as you come to terms with this unexpected event.

Our thoughts are with all friends, their families and the people of Lebanon. We stand in solidarity with you in grief and resolve ready to support where we can.

The following are legitimate charitable and non-governmental organisations, verified by our banker friends in Lebanon, that are providing support and relief to the people. Every cent counts!
