Mynt’s Thomas receives The Innovation Leadership Achievement in the Philippines Award for 2018

Anthony Thomas, chief executive officer, Mynt, was recognised for his leading the company in accelerating affordable and sustainable financial inclusion in the country, enabled by innovative features and emerging technology.

Anthony Thomas, chief executive officer (CEO), Mynt was awarded The Innovation Leadership Achievement in the Philippines Award 2018 at The Asian Banker The Future of Finance Summit 2018,held at the Summer Palace, Beijing, China. The guest of honour at the Leadership Achievement Awards Ceremony and Dinner was Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web, and was attended by about 100 top banking and financial industry executives from across Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.

The International Council of Advisors recognised Thomas for his outstanding leadership and role in championing innovation in the Philippines. He joined Mynt’s founding leadership team three years ago, directly responsible for its financial services vertical,before eventually becoming its CEO. With a strong banking experience, he led the company in enabling new products, offering unique mobile wallet payments features and establishing an innovative start-up lending business in the country.

Under his leadership the company became a one-stop shop in mobile financial services for millions of consumers and merchants. It offers mobile money and micro-loans services, providing consumers access to affordable and sustainable financing enabled by big data and technology driven credit analysis. The company forged new partnership and collaboration that enabled customers to receive money from over 200 countries and use it to purchase goods and services online. Mynt launched innovative features to promote financial inclusion, such as scaling cashless payment and ensuring seamless compatibility of its digital wallet with Alipay.

Thomas was recognised for his sound and visionary leadership in creating and fostering an environment and ability to inspire his team around innovation, leading Mynt into a well-recognised start-up company in the Philippines. Prior to Mynt, Anthony was with Citibank’s global consumer group for 17 years across Asia, Latin America and the US. His experience spans consumer lending, cards and wealth management.

The Asian Banker’s Innovation Leadership Achievement Awards underscore the importance of sound and visionary leadership in creating and fostering an environment and culture of innovation in individual institutions and also playing a role in shaping the industry. It seeks to recognise distinguished executives whose vision, efforts, and commitment inspire and champion the innovation that are already well regarded by peers in the industry. It takes stock of the achievements in innovation, leadership qualities, and resilience of each nominated candidate to successfully respond to and overcome adversities and crisis during the period under review. The final selection is reviewed and validated by the International Council of Advisors.
