Under Nancy So’s leadership, the bank has successfully positioned itself as a one-stop shop for corporate cash management solutions in Asia. Despite personal circumstances at the bank, she has driven the cash business in times of extreme uncertainty.

  • Nancy So is a decisive international leader, respected by many for being exemplary over multiple functionalities
  • Despite external and internal challenges, she led the bank to achieve a compound annual growth rate of 50% between 2015 and 2016
  • Nancy has demonstrated critical capabilities of being an "achiever" in all aspects

Nancy So received the award for Best Transaction Banker of the Year in Asia Pacific for 2018 (International Bank) at The Asian Banker Business Leadership Achievement Awards for 2018. The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with The Future of Finance Summit at the China World Hotel, Beijing, China on May 24th 2018

So is responsible for strategically leading the bank’s growth agenda on cash management services for financial institutions in the region. She has grown into her role in successfully shaping and positioning the bank as a one stop solution for corporate cash management in Asia. A strong proponent of Chinese growth story, her efforts to re-build the team from scratch in 2016 despite being a latecomer in a tightly competitive market, did not deter the bank from achieving a CAGR of 50% between 2015 and 2016.

Under her leadership, the Institutional Cash Management (ICM) Asia Pacific business has grown to be a notable contributor to the bank, accounting for ~20% of ICM’s global revenue. Despite headwinds from a challenging European macro environment, the team under her guidance managed to exit high risk clients, produced stable and diversified revenue streams and developed scalable and globally replicable solutions.

As one of the bank’s female managing directors, she has been the leading role model to many through her frequent participation in knowledge sharing sessions, both externally and internally. She has led the bank to be among one of the top two global banks to launch multi-currency clearing via API.

She is also uniquely positioned for the international nature of this industry, for four important reasons: 1) Although she was originally tasked with building the China business, she proved to have the mantle and the cultural acumen to command the respect of all her colleagues across the Asia Pacific region.; 2) As one of the few female managing directors with regional responsibilities, she has been the leading role model to both clients and colleagues through her leading by example in all she accomplished for her team; 3) Despite personal circumstances, she continues to lead her team with verve and fortitude; and 4) She has led the bank to be among one of the top two global banks to launch multi-currency clearing via API in the Asia Pacific region. Respected by many for being exemplary over multiple functionalities, she has proven to be a strong and decisive international leader.

The award is divided into two categories for Domestic Bank and International Bank respectively, to recognise the different roles that each plays in supporting customers.

The programme is predicated on the core belief that “Leadership is demonstrated by the ability to execute to a well communicated vision, by inspiring a strong management team, with courage and passion in overcoming specific adversities in order to deliver a strong and sustainable financial and business performance acceptable to all its stakeholders.”
