Nestor Tan and BDO Unibank recognised as Best CEO and Best Managed Bank in the Philippines

Nestor V. Tan, President and CEO of BDO Unibank has led the bank to become an industry leader and has achieved success in key initiatives covering wealth management, underserved customer segments and digital investments.

Under his leadership, Tan put emphasis on financial inclusion initiatives. Its rural banking arm expanded its branch network by 23% on the average, bringing its total branch network to 243 in 2021 from 172 in 2019. The bank witnessed an 84% expansion in deposits in 2021 and a 49% increase in outstanding loan.

BDO completed its next generation IT transformation programme in April 2021 and updated its technology architectural foundations, transitioning to a “plug-and-play” infrastructure that is agile, scalable, secure, and resilient. Tan has sustained investments to strengthen the bank’s cybersecurity capabilities.

Under his stewardship, BDO realised the lowest funding cost among peers, attributed to its superior deposit franchise stemming from its extensive distribution network and reliability of digital channels.

Under his leadership, BDO Unibank is also recognised as the Best Managed Bank in the Philippines.

The CEO Leadership Achievement for the Philippines Award goes to President and CEO of BDO Unibank, Nestor V. Tan.
